8:55a | Still here. Barely... First, the good news. We're up to sixty-seven wish lists published so far over in ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} wish_list. I just finished updating the Master list so if you'd like to take a look you can find it HERE. It makes me really happy to see the comm so active, spreading a little joy, and helping people connect with one another, is why it's there.Keeping the list updated is about the only fannish thing I've had time for lately; I failed pretty miserably with mini_nanowrimo this year. With everything going on in rl I've had no time for me so that translates into no time to write or do any artwork. Once I've got mom settled for the night, and things have quietened down enough for me to have some time at the computer, I'm just too tired to write. One of the side-effects of a Lupus flare-up is exhaustion and it's been hitting me pretty hard with this one.Plus, mom's sick. She's got a bad respiratory infection which has progressed to just this side of pneumonia. I took her to see her lung doc last week and we've got her on antibiotics and meds to thin out her secretions so the congestion is easier to cough up. Because of her illness she's had several fairly bad bouts with confusion the last couple of weeks. I can get her out of it over the course of the day but it's still pretty terrifying when it happens. Which led right into the other thing; I failed at being strong the other day. I was helping her with her bath and I just started crying. We talked about things and got in some really good hugs but it was still hard. I love my mom so much, she truly has been one of my best friends all of my life. I know she's winding down, that I probably won't have her with me for much longer, and I'm just not ready. She loves this time of year, somehow I'll make sure this is a really good Christmas for her. Between my and mom's illness I've had no time at work lately so things are really tight. Whether I have the energy or not I have to get things posted and sold over the next few weeks just to help us survive. I'm hoping I can get a lot done today if things go okay with mom. Okay, I'm shutting up now so I can go and get her bathed. Thanks for listening. I promise, next time I post will be lighter. It sure helps just knowing that you guys are here to listen, though. More than I can ever say. *hugs* |

7:48p | FOB and Deftones stuff Number 1, Fall Out Boy Folie a Deux Listening Party:  And I would totally go, except that it would mean going out to a mall. *shudder* And just, no. Not now, not ever again if I can at all help it. I can wait a few days. I've got the iTunes version in my sights and the Deux Pre-Order pre-ordered. *bounce* And now, a rant. So on the Alternative Music Channel (Music Choice) they keep playing Change (In the House of Flies) by the Deftones. Which I had heard before and enjoyed but now am seriously falling in love with. Naturally, I want it for my very own! So I go over to Amazon, because I had a positive experience with the download of a free Butch Walker song (which was the first BW song I'd heard and it was good). Also, DRM free. I do the search (god I hate Amazon's search engine results) and I find...multiple entries. Okay, now I have to try to determine which is which. And this is where I rant. WTF?! The LP version is listed at 4:59 mins on Amazon. Over on iTunes I can get the song in either a 5:16 min version or in a 4:58 min version. So. What. The. Fuck?! And none of them show as being on the White Pony album. *sigh* On Amazon the 'album' is listed as Change. On iTunes I can either get it off of a B-Sides and Rarities album or off of some soundtrack. On Amazon, Change is listed on the White Pony CD but there's no mp3 version of the album. On iTunes the White Pony album doesn't even include Change. WHAT THE FUCK?! Look, I just want the song. You know? I love the song and I want it. I can't afford the whole album, and I'm not sure I'd enjoy it anyway because my enjoyment of Change is full of caveats and conditions as it is (lyrical issues), so I was going to just grab the song but now I don't know which version to get and I can't afford to buy all fucking three of them. *pouts* So I'm not sure what I'm going to do. 11:41a | Eight Crazy Nights It's getting towards that time of year again, so I'm now soliciting prompts for Eight Crazy Nights. You provide fandom/s, character/s, pairing/s if you like, and something else--words, lyrics, tropes. Starting on the first night of Hanukah, I will post drabbles or, if inspiration strikes, something longer, just like last year. I'll do crossovers, timestamps for past stories, or anything else I can make work. Along with the usual suspects (SV, SPN, Buffy, XF) I will try anything I think I can do. Contenders include Chuck, Gossip Girl with appropriate characters (hint: Blair Waldorf must pie; Jenny Humphrey must die), and My Own Worst Enemy. Multiple prompts are fine; I'll just see what I can get to. |

The leaner, leakier 21st-century recording business is far less likely to nurture such erratic perfectionists. (snip) The new rock paradigm, a throwback to the 1950s and early 1960s, is to record faster, more cheaply and more often, then head out on tour before the next YouTube sensation distracts potential fans. I've been thinking something along those lines for awhile now. I personally think that the superstar nonsense lead to all the crap music of the 90s. I'd rather see a return to working musicians.
